The Beach

Overview
Lightwell worked with the Australian National Maritime Museum to develop a suite of multimedia for their Summer Program exhibition, The Beach. A 30-metre animation projected on two walls depicts a bustling beach scene, with crashing waves, boats bobbing on the horizon, people splashing in the water, and numerous ‘surprise’ moments, such as a seagull stealing chips. As visitors walk and run through a series of interactive rockpools on the floor, painterly ripples appear under their feet. All illustrations and animations were produced in-house by our team.

We also produced an atmospheric soundscape, filling the space with the sound of waves, seagulls, and voices of people enjoying the beach.

As part of the Summer Program, the ANMM activated the space in a variety of ways, including life drawing, yoga, family events, and more.
